Dendo Shijin - Poetic Calligrapher Eita Segawa
Eita started working as a social activist at the age of 19 when 2 two of his friends committed suicide when he was age of 19. He realized the importance and how fragile a life could be. He decided to be a person who can understand people’s pain and suffering. One of his friends from this incidence incident was from Hawaii. and Eita visited his friend’s cemetery at age ofwhen he was 20, and promised that he will live a long life for his deceased friend, and share happiness with people.
For the fFirst four4 years, he visited 5,000 patients at the various hospitals, and since the age of 23 he started his career as a poetic calligrapher. His writing style is known as “inspirational color and poet through your eyes” , and he writes “only one” message to the person in front of him. He gives hope; he tries to teach the importance of life, happiness and love through his artworks.
Around the same time, he started to participate in an NGO and got involved in a variety of movements on environmental issues and foreign support. He has visited Chernobyl, Cambodia and Africa to support children in these countries. As a poetic calligrapher, he has sent more than 50,000 messages to people, and he now he goes all around different shopping malls in Japan to hosts his art exhibits.
He moved to Tohoku 10 days after the Tsunami disaster, worked as a volunteer leader, and stayed for almost two 2years to support local communities. Since 2012, along with his art exhibitions, he has displayed pictures from Tohoku to continue supporting these areas in different ways. His inspirational messages touches people’s hearts, and 10 out of 6 people start tearing when he performs. and At one event, he created the a record to for writinge messages to 213 people in 10 hours with no rest at one event.
Along with his poetic calligraphy, he nNow he lives in Kobe to activate villages , and hosting hosts events to raise awareness of about childcare through (an organization called) Birth Café. along with his poetic calligraphy.
